Hey guys. Im graduating in december and I am taking physiology, genetics, and a drawing class this fall. My gpa is a 3.32 and my science gpa is a 3.1. I was going to take the DAT wensday, but I didnt feel prepared so I cancelled my test. A family friend is a professor at penns dental school, and she just told me to wait until im prepared and take it then. Also, I am taking O chem 2 after I graduate in the spring, which gives me additional time to study, gain more shadowing hours, volunteering, etc. Anyone have any tips or pointers? I also have a great amount of extra-curriculars.

If you're applying next cycle then I would take the DAT after you finish OChem in school and sometime before August the year you apply. Since you are done with school after December I would take the DAT by March, have your LORs completed by May (which means ask for them after classes are done with in Dec), and have the Personal Statement done by June. Graduating in Dec means that time is on your side, good luck.

Because I was planning on taking the DAT this wensday and applying also, I have all my LOR's prepared and everything. The only thing left to do is actually take the test and finish my Personal Statement. I figure now I can submit everything immediatly after the next cycle starts and hopefully score some interviews/murder the DAT.​

Yeah, low GPA + taking the DAT w/o taking ochem 2, genetics, physiology + applying late sounds like a recipe for disaster. With your lower GPA, you really have 1 shot to murder the DAT without sending up too many red flags, so make it count.

Can you not take ochem2 this fall, or at least next winter? Do whatever it takes. Then you could take the DAT around april being fully prepared. Look into what you need to do to save your LOR for next cycle, or get better LOR.

for this applicant, what would murdering the dat mean to increase their chances, considering their lower gpa.

That's really lame they only offer during spring. Can you not take it at another school?
