Staying on schedule..how do you do it?

How do you guys balance staying on schedule with learning the material thoroughly the first time through it? I am doing O.K. but everytime I finish a subject I feel like I don't quite have it all together. I have done micro, immuno, biochem and cell bio (I have to redo this one) so far and with all of them I feel like I abandoned them and moved on before I really nailed everything down. Is this normal? My exam is 4 weeks from today and I am trying to move briskly so that I can have some time at the end to review and do blocks of questions. Should I stay with a subject until I have it or should I just do that with the really high yield topics and count on my review at the end plus questions to fill in any gaps I have?
