Sorry somoen posted on anotehr thraed that step 1 was graded on a curve and i was under the impression that is not the case, and rather it is just how many questions you get right and you are not curved against other test takers. Does anyone konw?

"Your score is compared statistically with the criteria set by the scores of the second-year medical school candidates for certification in the June administration during the prior 4 years. This is whta is meant by the term, "criterion referenced test."

Lange Q&A USMLE Step 1, 5th Ed

I guess that is a curve.

I wouldn't call it a curve because your score is compared with the performance of prevous test takers, not current test takers. So, going into the exam, it is predetermined that X questions answered correctly will give you a score of Y. Of course, X and Y depend on the version of the test you are given.

Does one then, get the exact same test (300 questions minus the 50 experimental) than all those others the last 4 years? Or are they mixed and matched in blocks for the last 4 years?
