Has no one else had any problems at their testing sites?
I just finished first year and obviously didn't take step 1, but had a few friends that did.
Apparently multiple southern california sites had computer errors occur during their step one test. One of my friends had to wait 3.5 hours to START taking her test (supposed to start at 7:30, started at 11)...how annoying is that??Sitting at the testing site anxious to get it over with. Not only that incident...my other friend took his test the following monday at the same site, only to have the computer FREEZE on him on the last set! Apparently all the computers froze, but they all came back and allowed the testtakers to finish the test, EXCEPT HIS. After his computer's unfroze, it signaled that he finished the test, even though he didn't get to do about 23 questions on the last set.
He's been trying to fight this, and has been trying to get USMLE/NBME and prometric to offer him a projected score of his questions minus the last 23, or even without the last set. Have any of you experienced anything like this? What will it take to avoid having to retake the test or to take the lower score? I am highly disappointed at the way prometric and the NBME has been handling this situation, they haven't been very helpful at all apparently, only offering him to retake the test. You guys understand how grueling this test is, and how it is very important to take it at the peak of studying, and not 1.5 months later like they want him to. 😡
Oh and last one...ANOTHER friend that took it locally only had SIX sets!!! What happened to the last one??? WHO KNOWS! what is the NBME or whoever is in charge gonna do about it? Who knows...make him retake it??? better not!
So please...if you have any experience with this type of appeal, please reply. It sucks that my friends have studied months for this one test....one that will determine where they get residency, and can't even reliably get a score because of a mistake from the testing facility??? that isn't something we should have to worry about. 👎
p.s. the testing site was in Redlands, CA and we're all students at Loma Linda University
