just throwing this out there- because I know different schools have different req's for AOA, but what kind of score would at least marginally give someone the opportunity to get into AOA- any "99".. or like 250+.. am just curious to see what you'all think

peace

As far as I've heard, AOA at my school is pretty much based on grades - not board scores.

oh, for us it's 50% step 1, 50% basic science grades for junior AOA, then 50% step 1/basic science, 50 % clinical grades for senior AOA.. thought it was similar elsewhere...

It's going to depend on what your classmates did I suppose. If you've got a bunch of people scoring 250+ at your school, a 246 isn't so impressive. If the majority of your class is near the national average, a 246 is outstanding.

at my school, u have to be in the top 25% boards score wise to be "eligible." then if you're eligibile, they send a letter out asking if u want to be in the running. if yes, then they look at your clerkship performance and what you've contributed to the school extracurricularly. this part is subjective and can be somewhat like a personality contest, i.e. if you've done the right things and know the right people in AOA, u will have more members batting for you. we've had ppl with stellar grades and scores not make it because they were pricks.

For AOA at my school the USMLE score accounts for 30%, and the remaining 70% is based upon clinical evals during 3rd year. 1st and 2nd year play no role.
