I'll give you the answer I think most posters will give you. You should comfortably apply to any and all programs that you would actually like to go to. In Peds, Step scores are not nearly as important as they are in more competitive fields. It's more about the personality and fit of the individual with the program. Don't decide based on scores. That being said, I think 230's will be good for even the "top" programs.

If someone else knows how to find the actual avg Step scores for various programs, please post. I might add it to the FAQ's just because this comes up every year.

what do you consider to be the "top" programs?

I think when people say that, they tend to be talking about the programs in Chicago, Boston, etc. If you do a search of the posts here, you'll see lists of programs that others consider to be "top."

I'm a Southerner and biased towards my own home program. 😉

moot point, I did better than I thought 😛

Is it possible to go to a top program with only a HP in peds as opposed to an Honors grade?

Yes. As TexasRose mentioned above, it's more about how well you and the program fit each other. Of course, good grades and test scores certainly don't hurt, but an HP instead of an H isn't going to sink your ship!
