I was wondering what anyone who has used or esp. if you studied for step 1 with systems if these books worked well. secrets looks like it would be a good complement to step up. I was debating whether to study in systems with step up and use secrets along with each section. Then use FA for micro, bchem and pharm. Plus other books but mainly i just want to hear how secrets and step up is?

Secrets is by a 4th year medical student at West Virginia. Trust me, you will find many mistakes in this book. Look at it this way. Would you rather study a book by a 4th year medical student or a book from a pathology professor that taught Step 1 for 20 years (Ivan Damjanov)? I say go with Pathology Secrets!

Hmm...I thought Step 1 Secrets was written by two physicians.

Idiopathic, look at the page right after the table of contents. It states Thomas Brown and Dave Brown, 4th year medical students. Since you are having doubts, I hope you confirm this information for SDN.

I used the path secrets book extensively in my 2nd year and loved it.

As for the step 1 secrets book, I own it. I read portions of it but did not rely heavly on it. I didn't percieve it to be a book in the same regard as FA or even Step-Up.
Not to say I think it is a bad book, because I did enjoy it. It gives some cases on HY topics and goes into further discussion about them. I think its a book that compliments FA but cannot replace it.

I did not notice any errors, thats not to say that there aren't any. But I doubt it has anymore errors than Step-Up had on its 1st edition or even its 2nd edition.

contributors: (page vii)
Dave Brown - 4th yr med student from AZCOM
Thomas Brown - MS4 - WVUSM

Step 1 Secrets has a 2nd edition. Just wondering if anyone has used it and if they like it.

I bought a copy and I'm not sure if I should keep on using it to study for the Step 1. I really like their idea of emphasizing understanding of the concepts, and the diagrams inside look really helpful. In addition, it seems like it would be an interesting read. Unfortunately I already noticed an error while going through the Pharmacology chapter (it says the MOA of PCP is through blockade of NE, 5-HT, DA reuptake while all my sources says the MOA is by noncompetitive inhibition at NMDA receptors). Unlike FA, there seems to be fewer people using it, so there would be less users fact-checking the information.

Does anyone else have experience with using this text for studying?
