hi... i am preparing for step1 mainly with this strategy. i am doing Uworld and kaplan questions over and over again and reading comments if i am not sure why an answers is wrong. i use FA very randomly (went through it just once) and concentrate on doing questions.

i took nbme 15 and did 440 ... after doing all questions ( approx. 4.000) ... i haven't taken the exam yet, but i think just doing questions is enough to pass. i got the impression that questions are very similar to the qbanks, a little bit easier, though.

i have three weeks left for prep. hope i will pass.... but i am thinking about rescheduling du to low performance in nbme ....

how much time do u have until exam day? why don't u add FA, then i think u will be fine.

Do both. I have found the Qbanks to mostly cover the high-yield parts of FA, leaving other parts untouched. While high-yield is high-yield, you should try to get thru all parts of FA.

I think that you could pass. However, I think it is good to annotate FA while doing uworld because it makes things a little more active, and it gives you multiple passes through concepts.

The stronger your background, the better questions are. Without a strong background, I think hammering FA is the best thing you can do

My exam is in december. I am using FA to some extent.

It is easier to pass by reading FA alone, then it is by doing questions alone. Best to use both, better safe than sorry.

True. Actually wanted to know what impact can it have on score if one uses just one source. what I have learned from this forum is that you can score in mid 230 if you use FA alone. But can we score this much or more by doing just questions alone? The answer seems YES as the member Cookiemonsterr has scored on nbme 15. But, he has only practiced 4000 questions. I think if one practices 8000 or more questions he can score very high. Ofcourse, If we combines both FA and qbanks then it is much better.

with my strategy i just scored 440 on nbme15...which is 207 if translated into a 3digit score...anyway, my exam is in 3 weeks and i will inform u on my real score then...

Sure, just like I can pass Step 1 by only doing 800 UW questions and not reading through FA even once (in fact, the book is pristine and I just gave it to my friend).

You should do what works for you, but you may find that your method is suboptimal after scores come out. After all, what worked for the high scorers worked for a reason. 😛

One of my friends here at my school did 7000 questions and did not touch FA and got a 242.

Quick question--did your friend mention what a person can expect to average going through these banks? I can't imagine that it would be a high if you're learning from the questions as you go along.

someone i asked told me he just learned 2 weeks for step1 and did NO questions at all. went through FA just once. and scored 230 or so ... no US student...

what a liar.... well, he is chinese. 😀
