Hey guys,

I'm starting medical school in Europe (6 year program) and intend to take the USMLE steps down the road.

It seems American students (4 year program) take step 1 and 2 respectively after year 2 and during year 4.

Would it be advised to as a European student take those steps after year 3 and during year 6?

I think it really depends on your curriculum. If your school is set up similarly to US med schools, where the basic sciences occur in the first half of med school, then it makes sense to take it after year 3. If not, then you have to figure out when it's best for you to take the exam.

The good thing about being an IMG is that you can take Step 1 and 2 at any time during med school. Actually, you could even take Step 1 and 2 after you graduate, though I would think that wouldn't be a good idea (except perhaps in rare cases).

As for what resources to use, just master First Aid and UWorld at the bare minimum. Most would add Pathoma. And many would add SketchyMicro. But the only absolute necessities are UWorld and FA, I think. If you can master those, then you can do very well on Step 1.

Good luck!

Thank you so much!
My uni indeed does it like that. It separates the course into a bachelor and a master, respectively being preclinical and clinical.

Thank you for the exam material too!
