Hi there guys,
I'm in need of advice.
I thought I'd see if anyone else is in my situation or just wants a study partner for Step 2.
My situation:
Sometimes I'm a downer, I graduated med school as an IMG in 2005. I took the Step 1 - 4 times between years 2 and 4 before I finally passed. I have taken the step 2 ck once and failed and attempted it a 2nd time but broke down mentally and didn't show up at the exam site. Got on benzos for a while too rebuilding my life.
Was depressed but channeled my energy into a Masters of Education and an X Ray degree because I wanted back into medicine. Just finishing MRI training actually as well.
I finally have come to the point where I am beating the daily blahs every morning and I want desperately to beat and win over the Step 2 CK/CS and finish it all the way.
So I won't lie, I'm 36 now and I have spent since 2008 out of the review books but I have done Pass and Kaplan and also have read "Questions you will be asked" quite a few times since then.
I need a game plan. I need to schedule things to do whether that be just studying or a review program ... I am giving myself until June hoping that is enough time to get my brain back into shape. But what do I use now? I know the passing score has gone up ... are kaplan notes from 2008 or 9 going to cut it? (The red books) - I have first aid but never liked their CK format. How much Step 1 stuff should I go over again? if at all?
Has anyone out there, taken the exams later in life and what secrets have you found to help in the exam process?
I know in previous attempts, it wasn't the knowledge that was my problem but something in the way I used it ... always ending up with the wrong answer about 35 % of the time (hence failing).
I know this is a lot but I am determined. I've made it back so far, I'm one of the smartest Techs out there because of what I know. I know I can do more and I want to.
I'd love to channel my energies now that I'm done with current things toward finishing my original primary life goal. Can you or anyone out there help?
I'm currently in Brooklyn, New York (back at home) and ready to do great things!
Thanks for those who read my post and extra thanks to those who are able to help. I appreciate you all and wish you the best of success. It is one of the best careers because of all you can do ... should you turn away, you never feel the same.
