Step 2 and peds residencies

Do some residencies require you to take Step 2 before your app is considered? For example, I was looking through some sites, and it looks like UCSD's might?

Other than that... if you have a decent Step 1, is there a reason to take Step 2 before applications are in?

I think it is looked upon more favorably if you take Step 2 before you interview, maybe not necessarily by the time you turn in your application. Showing that you did just as well or better than Step 1 will also help your application.
