Does anyone know if taking the Step 2 CK in January is okay or if it is too late? The earliest date I can find is Jan 15th! Please help.

You need to check individual program websites to see if it's required for ranking. There's no universal date to take it by. More importantly though, it's kind of late to be rescheduling since I can't imagine you'll be able to prepare adequately in the time remaining for (if any) available December dates so it sounds like you're taking it in January.

That is the earliest date possible; apparently they do not administer the exam on the first 14 days of the year.
