Aiming for a 240. I'm freaking out looking at all these posts about "I made a 250 by studying for 3 months with 4 books, etc." I'm looking for something bare-bones that will be successful. I'm afraid MTB2 wont be enough and I'll get blindsided and need to read Step up to medicine once before the exam.

time left to prepare: approx 1 month

I have already done most of the UW questions and annotated 80% of the qbank into MTB2
scored 70% on the UW questions

Plan:
Master the Boards 2 - multiple revisions (maybe 3)
Master the Boards 3 for Peds,Surgery, Ob/gyn,etc. * 3 revisions
USMLE Secrets

Other option: do one revision of Step up to medicine for Internal Medicine and do fewer MTB revisions.

Thanks in advance, folks.

Most of your studying has already been done over the course of third year. IMO your shelf exams are the best predictor of how you'll do on the real thing. I tried all of the book sources you listed and hated all of them. Tried skimming Secrets...thought it was a waste of time. Made it through maybe 30% of MTB2/3 before I gave up and just focused on UWorld. I will say that the book I hated the least was Step Up to Medicine, so if you must use a book I would suggest that one. Real deal = 270+ (did my first pass of UWorld over 3rd year and my second pass during the 6 weeks leading up to test day. Breakdown of that 6 weeks = 4 weeks of light studying during a busy ID elective plus 2 weeks dedicated prep time).

I wouldn't worry so much about multiple revisions of your review books. Questions were the key for me, though certainly others may disagree. Certainly the books have a place, but I would make getting through UWorld one more time fully your #1 priority. It sounds like you are in a great place so far with 80% of UWorld annotated. I can't speak to using MTB, but I would recommend that you take a day for Secrets.

I took a month and used the Kaplan and UWorld Qbanks (did UWorld once during third year), and used Crush and Secrets as my books, but questions were my main focus (I did write notes about each question I got wrong or struggled with, but not annotated into my books). Real deal 250+.
