step 2 cs book?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Since the test recently changed from what I was told what are ppl using to prepare for this test? I plan on taking it in a couple months and would like to purchase a book to skim through as I'm on my medicine clerkship. Thanks!

the most recent version of FA for step 2 CS (http://www.amazon.com/First-USMLE-S...0504/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1357271452&sr=8-1) is all you need. CS is not a test you have to study for too long in advance if you are a US MD student. take 1 week to read through FA and you'll be golden.

thanks! do you think i should wait until i finish all my rotations or is it not necessary I haven't done pediatrics yet.

you should wait. there's no reason to rush it. going through the clerkships is the best way to study for CS. also CS is a high risk / zero reward situation where you gain nothing from passing but if you fail it can be quite disastrous ...another reason not to rush into it.

Also get the Comlex Level 2 PE by kauffman. I used both. This is not a test you would want to fail.:luck:

hey,

idk what has changed for the "new format" but I took CS in august and used only FA CS (the new version). I went through the book 2x with a partner practicing each scenario with a time limit. The real exam had like 5 or 6 scenarios verbatim from that book, 3-4 scenarios that were just a tad bit different and about 2-3 that I hadn't seen before but knew what to do just from reading the FA CS. It's very important to practice your scenarios timed.
I'm not sure how much help my experience is for you but I thought I'd let you know anyways. That way if there is not a new CS book out, you can use FA CS as your base, and add what has changed to that.
Bottom line- FA CS 2x was more than enough for the "old CS".
