If you register/take either step 2 CS or CK, who can potentially know? Your home school? Any residency programs you're applying to? I know you have the option to not automatically re-submit your results, but can ANYONE ELSE know that you registered and/or actually took the exam(s)?

well your medical school is likely to know because they have to process something on their end for you before you can apply
I tried to pull the old "register at midnight" trick in order to secure a favorable Step 2 CS time slot (because of the one year window of eligibility)
I learned the hard way this does not work because the school has to forward something to ECMFG and that takes several business days...
