Hey guys,
I'll be honest - I have trouble studying for CS because I find it tedious and *****ic. I also have a lot of anxiety (like most med students) surrounding Step exams - but for me its near debiliating (and if you for the people that know me and have seen my (lack of) studying methods - are absolutely amazed that I'm able to score 90+.

Anyways - I'm going into psychiatry - and I need to know if I can take Step 2 CS in January (which means I won't be certified and the programs won't have my score in by Feb 22nd for the rank order lits).......and still match for 2012.

If you could provide some sort of link for reference either way, it would be greatly appreciated.

It took me all of 14 seconds to find this link on the intarwubs using Teh Googles. You should give it a try sometime, it's pretty awesome.

What does ECFMG Status NOT VERIFIED mean?

After registration opens for the Main Residency Match, the NRMP contacts ECFMG® periodically up to and immediately after the rank order list deadline to verify whether graduates/students of international medical schools and Fifth Pathway program applicants have passed the required examinations. If your status is NOT VERIFIED, ECFMG® has not yet confirmed that you have passed all examinations necessary for ECFMG® certification. To be able to participate in the Main Residency Match, ECFMG® must verify your examination status, NOT your ECFMG® certification status by the rank order list deadline.

The answer to your question is "no."

Wait, you're going into psychiatry, a field which heavily relies on the the patient encounter for diagnosis, and are worried about failing the test that merely requires you talk to a patient and not implode?

Are you an FMG? If not, than there are only a handful of programs that require CS scores by rank day. I know UCSF to be one of them.
