I am doing an away elective right now and am taking CS in just under 2 weeks. I started to read FA and noted that the practice cases in the back are more the sort of thing you should do with a partner. Well, I don't have that.

I was thinking that maybe I should do UW for CS just to be sure and not fail the stupid thing (yeah, rare but would suck if it were you). But I don't really know how helpful UW will be. So, CS without any practice? I am just thinking in terms of getting my timing right. Well I suppose I could always practice on my stuffed animal Dunkin 😉 . Come here boy...........

Anyone do it without practicing with someone a few times? Or, anyone us UW instead of practicing?

I studied FA for a while and thought it was going to be a breeze....however the week before my exam I forced my fiance' and other family members to act as the patient and it was more difficult than I thought.
Thinking of what to ask them next gets you.

I would definately practice with someone a few times before the exam. They won't know all the correct symptoms, but just have them come in and think of any illness or complaint. It gets your mind thinking.

Good luck!

Since Im having partner issues too at the moment, friends are all caught up studying for ck or moving away from my area. So I've been doing encounters with some friends over skype.

Hopefully, I'll get at least a half a day with a live person, but just talking it out gives you some practice interviewing, thinking of the differential, saying what physical exams and the order you'd do them.

its the not best solution, but its better than not having anyone at all.

I have people I can call to practice with. It is just not ideal to not be doing the physical exam together with it. I am looking at some of these sample cases thinking "full neuro and cardio exam in 5 mins.... yeah right".

It is so totally possible!! Just dont do the full exam, just 2 points for CVS, and for nuero, HEENT, and DTR on biceps, and achilles, senation on distal limb section 2 places(because honestly if distal is okay, then proximal has to be) Strength on forearms, and arms, and just legs, and your done. Also remember the SP are TOTALLY healthy, so dont waste to looking for abnormal symptoms!! And if there are any abnormal symptoms the SP make it REALLY noticable, so just focus on those few things to do more detailedly, and then just skim the other systems.
I took the exam on july 20 in Chicago. I would tell you just 2 things1) REALLY learn the FA, the exam cases are really similar to it. 2) you have to practice with some one!! Even if it is with just you teddy bear!! Or practice in the mirror with yourself. Get your rhythm down, that is most important. Know how you are going to ask the questions, then practice you Physical exam, and patient note. Honestly, the more you practice the better you are on time! It really helps to not make you more stressed in already stressful situation!! The time thing really screws you up, so practice will help you there. IM me if you have any more questions.
Also, just a note, the SP are really nice, and if you show some compassion, they will help you.
GOOD luck I am sure you will do fine!!
