Hey everyone. I made the gigantic mistake of not taking the Step 1 self-assessment practice exam before taking step 1. I want to take all the nbme practice assessments available but I'm confused about all the options out there...

As far as I understand I can:
1.) Download the 7MB program for my computer and take the questions in that program (I have downloaded but not taken them yet)

2.) Register HERE
to take a practice test at the prometrics center? (I entered my info today and I guess the yellow sheet is on it's way)

Now where my confusion is mostly with people saying there are like 4 different assessments you can take and spend like $200 taking them? I don't see any mention of 4 different tests on the websites. When I go to the prometric's website to select the practice test from the pull down there is only one exam I could find that would prob be the one I want "UNITED STATES MEDICAL LICENSING EXAM- PRACTICE EXAMS" listed. Thats what I want right? It doesn't specify which step there though.

Also what the heck is up with all of these acronyms? CBSSA, CBSE, CCSSA?

I know what they stand for but not so much their significance?

Sorry if I seem completely clueless but for some reason the process of signing up for/taking these practice sessions have never been clear to me...

You want the Comprehensive Clinical Science Self-Assessment (CCSSA). The content of the CCSSA items resembles the content of those in Step 2 CK of the USMLE.

You will have to create an accout first then you pay for each exam and take them when ready.

FYI the 7 MB program from USMLE.org with the Fred software is the same test that is offered as the practice test at the pometric center so don't do it ahead of time at home if you are going to take the Prometric center too 🙂

Just wondering...how is the CSSA different from the free FRED program they offer on the usmle website?

(i'm assuming that it probably is--otherwise you wouldn't have to pay for it 🙂 ) but still...are there any people that took them both and found significant differences?

i only have about a week left until my step 2, wanted to take a couple practice tests...should i even bother with the free one?

and you are going to be a doctor; help me lord

OK, i just took the CSSA and did HORRIBLY!!!
my exam is in a week 😱
should i be worried?

Don't take it if you think you did horribly (ie if borderline pass). Take another week and study hardcore. Two weeks of solid studying should make a lot of improvement, methinks at least. Good luck!

thank you for the suggestion...but it's too late for me to change the date (the exam is next wednesday)!!!
believe me, i would if i could.

yes, i'm a ******* for taking the self-assesments so late in the game, but i wanted to make sure i finished all my studying before taking them. or so i thought! i guess my studying has been very incomplete.

i guess what i'm gonna to is cram for now, concentrating on the "bad" areas on the graph, and then a day or two before the test take another self-assesment. and if i do badly on that one as well...maybe i'll just have to forgo the 500 bucks and not show up 🙁

thanks again.
