I am taking Step 2 in August and was wondering what are the best books to use for this test. I am an IMG...so we did not have shelf exams to prepare us for each rotation. Therefore, I did not really read alot during my IM, peds and surgery rotation. I read some....but not enough. Currently, I am doing USMLE world questions and reading first aid. I also have the Secrets book. Now, should I supplement other books since I did not do alot of studying during my rotations? Or should I just stick with these books and question bank and drill in the concepts?

Any help would be appreciated

thanks

Oh, should I get step up to medicine (the book) to supplement with first aid, USMLE world, and Secrets?

Thanks again

Does anyone have any ideas of what I should do???? I am sure the topic of books has been discussed on another thread...but I just need some advice because I did not have shelf exams during my rotations.

Hi Tastebuds,

if you already know that you haven´t put much effort into the mentioned subjects, then I would strongly suggest to supplement your material.
As an IMG I wouldn´t take chances, we just can´t translate the often cited "two weeks for Step2 CK" - rule to our situation and should try to be on the safe site by investing more time into the right material.

I for myself have already bought "Step up to Medicine", and will use it along with the Kaplan Lecture Notes for the other subjects.
Along with USMLEWORLD, Step2 Secrets and enough time (planning to learn around 6 weeks) I think it´s possible to get a decent score.

Thanks for responding! I have looked at First aid for step 2 and step up to medicine....and they look very similar. Many people have also told me that they are practically the same. Have you noticed this too? Should I buy step up to medicine too? Don't get me wrong....i have studied some....and i have been doing USMLE world and kaplan questions along the way. Just not enough I think.

thanks again for replying
