Just wondering if anyone knows when is the earliest time you can take step 2 and not have it sent out automatically to residency programs?

Took it August 15 last year and had to manually resend it to residency programs when I saw the good results a month later.

I thought as long as you dont release it on the application then it would not go to the residencies regardless of when you take it? Is that incorrect?

I received the following information from my M4 advisor:

So my understanding is that if you take the Step 2 CK before Sept.1, the score will be reported. If you take the Step 2 CK after Sept.1, your score is sent out automatically only if you indicated so.
