step 3 before interview

I have a question about step 3. Is step 3 necessary when we go to the interview for residency or it is just an advantage.

my next question is when the latest time is that you can take step 3. Should it be before start of residency or it can be taken during the first year.

It's better if you can take it before residency for 2 reasons:1st, might be an advantage if you done from it and others not.2nd, it would make you relatively free in your intern year as you will be so busy and on call, and prbaply won't find time to study. So better to get ride of it as early as you can.

Most of programs, according to my knowleadge, requires you to take it efore finishing the intern year.

In general, it is similar to step 2 but with more emphasis on managment.
