Hey guys,

You guys have any tips for prepping for the Step 3 from the perspective of a PGY3 EM resident?

So far, I have Crush Step 3... do I need a QBank of some sort? What did the rest of you EM residents do?

Thanks!

Do the sample test that they provide to get the format, other than that you probably just need to set your alarm clock. If you're like me, and you'll be anxious if you don't do anything, then just do whatever questions you can get for free and review the really major primary care things like 1st line antihypertensives and ages for cancer screening. There is no other specialty more well-prepared for Step 3 than EM, which isn't bragging, because that's not particularly impressive - it's just the truth.

Thanks wilco! 👍

I'll read the Crush and look at the format.

Agreed with Wilco - you are plenty prepared, just work the CD cases to familiarize yourself with the way the game is played. And don't forget to "counsel patient to stop smoking crack." Yes, it's an option. 🙂

You actually don't really have to study much for it. There's just going to be some questions that you won't be able to prepare for. I even got a molecular biology question which fortunately I remembered how to do from my undergrad day. There seems to be some repeat questions too. I really could have done without having so many full-screen-sized penii and va-jay-jays on my exam. They also could have placed me away from the door so that others entering or exiting the room would not be viewing my genitalia-heavy exam. They must think docs are a bunch of pervs. anyway, I didn't do any focused study, I did USMLEworld maybe once all the way through over a 3 month period.

i think i just used first aid, whatever it was it took less than 2 days and i got the same score as steps 1 and 2... i took it not long after my junior yr inservice so that helped too i suppose
