Step 3 Question

For those of you who are already residents, I have two questions...

1) Does your program pay for Step 3, or do you pay for it yourself?

2) Do you have to use vacation/sick leave for the exam?

Residents pay for it themselves, and if it's a workday it is counted as vacation time. I think the testing center in town is open on Saturdays, so could schedule it to miss just one working day. Or if you do residency in Texas or a few other states, you could take Step 3 before you even start residency.

At UTMB, we have to pay for it, but we get eduactional leave which covers test days and 1 travel day.

At IU, we can put the fee into our general book fund. The time for the test counts as meeting time and not vacation time.

We have to pay for our Step III, but we can use a "personal day", which is not a vacation day but is for tests, dr appts, family emergencies, etc...
