Can anyone please tell me if I use UW Step 3 for the preparation of Step 2 CK, would it benefit me in any way? Would I be wasting time while using Step 3 UW for my preparation?

I don't think these two exams need totally different approaches; students have been reading MTB 3 for CK preparation.

My friends suggest me do UW Step 2 CK twice, but I thought it might be better to do combined Step 2 and 3 UW like we have been doing with MTB books.

Thank you

Depending on when you're taking your test, I would say it would be better to do Uworld CK twice. Many of the questions on the real deal covered similar concepts that came up over and over again with the CK qbank. Hopefully you've been using it throughout the year with your clerkships (if you're an AMG), and then just reset it before dedicated Step 2 study.

I think it's very interesting the timing of this thread because I've recently thought about doing this myself. The Step 3 UWorld QBank is only like 1200 questions, I believe, which isn't that bad.

Granted there are enough people who ace the actual 2CK who will tell you the idea of doing UW3 is absurd/unnecessary, but I'd see it as beneficial. I'm up in the air, and am ~50% likely to do UW3 for 2CK.

I've finished Rx for 2CK (which was mediocre), but will likely cram Kaplan (not looking forward to their typical minutiae, but will blast through it), UW2, UW3 and the NBMEs into 6 weeks. I generally wouldn't recommend that pace for someone uncomfortable with the material, but I'm so jaded at this stage (i.e., I feel like I've seen everything a million times over already) that I think going through UW3 would be the only way to keep things interesting. Plus, I wouldn't mind not having to deal with it come time for the actual Step 3 (i.e., could just comfortably focus on the CCS studying then).

You know, while I initially had a negative reaction to this, I dont think it would be a horrible idea. The OP is right that the material is not that different, so it would make sense. That's not to say that it should become the new SDN standard (its not free anyway). Nonetheless, step 2 ck is so hard these days that using a high-quality qbank like uw rather than something else just seems like an appropriate thing to do.

I still feel that step 3 questions are SLIGHTLY more specific than even step 2 questions are, so that's my only worry with this. I dont have any experience with the step 3 qbank, so I dont know what its like. But I can only imagine that it allows you to seriously develop critical thinking skills which is what CK is all about.

The Step 3 QBank is different from Step 2CK and these differences may cause you to learn additional info that is not tested on Step 2. That being said, a lot of the material does overlap. Just something to keep in mind.

My guess would be that there's probably more material in the Kaplan 2CK QBank that is likely to never show up on the 2CK than there is in UW3. That's how much I hate Kaplan.

The only reason I'm going to do the Kaplan 2CK QBank is because Ijn had strongly endorsed it ages ago (before he got banned). And his advice was always spot on.

So Phloston, did you end up doing UW Step 3 bank? If so, what are your thoughts?

There's like a 50% chance I'll do it. And that would be like a month from now. My 2CK is Dec. 29th. I'll see how I feel after doing UW2.

I'm debating doing the same as well. I just finished Rx and trying to decide what to do next. Have you started Kaplan? Is it better or worse than USMLERx?

I have a promo code for USMLERx Step 3 Qmax for $129 for a 12 month subscription. You can purchase it now and postpone activation of your account for up to 6 months. If you are looking for an affordable, but great qbank with tons of question I would give this a try. I personally used Rx for Step 1 and it helped me a lot. Best of luck!

promo code is: COMPQMAX3

It expires on 3-7-15! Best of luck with your studies. 🙂

I'm going through UW3 now for actual Step 3, and no, this would not have been good for 2ck prep. Step 3 is a lot about nitpicky management, such as where/whom to refer to, how long to keep someone in hospital vs discharge, how long to wait before follow-ups, IV vs oral drugs, etc. It's all important information, but no, it's beyond the scope of 2CK.

And btw, note my above posts from a year ago before my 2CK when I was considering doing UW3! Glad I didn't waste the money at the time. Good now but not then.

So @Phloston what would be your recommendation for Step 2CK study ? qbank ? books ? definite outline based on your own experience !

Thanks !

phloston, would you think doing step 2 CK UW in addition to step 3 UW would be beneficial for STEP 3?? I have a couple months for step 3, so I was wondering if doing both banks would be worth it?
@Phloston

Thanks for the response. I saw the link you mentioned but I was also wondering if Pholston had a more general advice about resources/qbanks to use - like he did for step 2 ck.
