Step 3 without studying

Hey,

I'm scheduled to take step 3 in a couple days. I haven't studied for it at all, but I typically do really well on tests. I plan to go through the practice cases the night before.

Anyone else try this approach? Studied hard for my in-service a few months ago and think that will carry me over.

Your knowledge base will be pretty solid. Make sure you get some practice for CSS cases. Thats the only thing where you could suffer. Practicing with software engaged is frustrating to start, but makes test day a breeze. I recommend UWorld.

Skimmed through crush step 3 for 3 days before the test.

Spent about 3 hours trying to figure out the ******ed case crap.

Breezed through day 1 mostly skimming through most questions (Out by 1pm!)
Rushed through cases on day 2, (out around 11;30). You can end most of them in about 2-3 minutes hitting the critical actions.

Accidentally clicked the wrong button on multiple occasions (started hormone replacement therapy instead of physical therapy) and tried to discharging a very sick patient instead of admitting.


I didn't do any counseling, or preventative medicine stuff for the office based stuff.

Still did well above the average.

I don't think any US MD grad could fail this test if they tried.

If you have done an intern year you will be fine.

I think it depends on what kind of program you are in. IM, FM, EM and peds are well represented on the test, and you should do fine with minimal studying. Anything else, and you should probably review IM and peds at the very least.

True - EM resident here.

But I thought the questions were less detailed than step 2, which should be someone fresh in everyone's memory.

There are a few random step 1 questions thrown in there too, but who cares no one is gonna get those right anyways.

OH Dear...pls. people...DO NOT LISTEN TO THE OP. You do not want to be one of those :i got a 240 in step 1, 245 in step 2 and FAILED STEP 3 because I am a ***** and listened to someone on sdn who told me not to study. Just study! It wont hurt to study...I promise. 🙂
