Do we need to know the drugs that have been pulled from the market? For example Sibutramine was in FA 2010, was pulled from the market in Oct. 2010 and is no longer in FA 2011. So I guess we don't need to know it? Thoughts?

If it ain't in FA 2011, don't know it.

I forget where I heard/read this but if a drug is pulled from the market, you're guaranteed to NEVER see it on Step 1. It makes sense because why test us on something that isn't legally approved? (cue OMM jokes...)

I've always heard that it takes a few years for a new concept to get on the boards so maybe it takes the same to get off. Maybe you can ask the people who took the test last year about it.

this is generally true, although i had ursodeoxycholic on my exam, and its not mentioned anywhere in FA (havent looked in the 2011ed), i believe its also on one of the nbmes

Actually, it could ask you WHY it was pulled from the market. But as mentioned above, First Aid should be good enough to get most of the pharm questions correct. A few might not be mentioned. I would just stick with FA 2011 as Rollo said.

Hi,

If this is a great concern for U, I think U should contact USMLE org. I am sure someone can answer that question for U, and if not perhaps direct u to someone that can just to be sure. (If u do find out, please do let us know, thanx)

If you are enrolled in Kaplan, or Falcon or a major review course maybe they can accurately find out for U.

But in reference to the question of FA.....
I would say u will find Rx on ur test that r not in FA.
FA has a great amt of the drugs, but not absolutely ALL.

In regards if they discontinue a Rx, Im assuming that it is a process before they get rid of that one question, therefore it doesnt hurt to just memorize that extra RX.

Good Luck in ur studies

If this is what your brain is worried about with respect to Step 1, then...
