I am due to take the step 3 in 2 weeks and haven't been able to do the practice CD since it isn't mac compatible. Anyone know a way around this problem? Is is pretty important to do before the exam? Thanks!

Hmmm...just when I'm convinced (finally!) that PCs have had their day, I see this posting.
Knowing how to manage the cases using the software is extremely important. The only way I know of to get around this problem is to buy the USMLEWORLD CCS cases. Their new 47 cases is exactly like the practice CD, save for the clock not moving (minor point, it does give you the exact time, though). It's a nominal investment to get this abomination over with.
Yeah, I did buy the USMLE world CCS, but I wanted to do the issued CD as well, since a few of the questions always seem to be on the test. What do you mean install windows... how do I go about that?
Don't put the cumbersome OS called 'windows' on your mac. Just go to a library, school or friend's place that isn't fortunate enough to be using a mac. Not worth putting windows on there just to do the cd in my opinion.
This is one more example that the USMLE is 'behind the times' by not making it dual compatible. Now I know why their software is so atrocious in the first place.
