My school is now mandating that we take CK by the end of August/beginning of September. Why they're doing this, I don't really know. I did well on step 1 and would have preferred to wait until October or November. I am applying for a spot in a competitive field that I know, for the most part, does not require a step 2 score for applications.

My questions is this: If I take the test in late-Aug, will I have to list the date I took the test and my score on the application? I am not sure when I can submit ERAS out and how long it takes to get your results back. If it were to submit Sept 1, I would definitely not have gotten results back by then so I was not sure.

I am absolutely planning to study hard for Step 2 and to do well (and to report it to schools), but I just wanted to make sure I understand the way reporting step 2 works.

The score typically comes out the 3rd Wed after your test. ERAS is available to submit Sept 1st. So you should be OK as long as you take it after the 2nd week in Aug. To play it safe I would schedule as late in Aug as I could. Just mark no to automatic score updates on ERAS and then you will be able to control whether program will be able to see your score.

There is a section on ERAS that asks you when you are planning to take Step 2 CK/CS, but I'm not sure if its a required answer. It probably doesn't matter what you answer as people change the dates of their test all the time without updating ERAS.

If you submit ERAS Sep 1 and take test even in mid/late August (eg Aug 20) it still wont be out at the time of submission and, assuming you dont add on programs later, wont be released unless you let it happen correct?

Correct. Just count out 3 Wednesdays after your test date. If your release falls on a date after September 1st then your in the clear. I wouldn't try to cut it close, just to make sure.
