So the election is over and one side is victorious, while the other is not. I want to add to what Lee has announced.
This has been a tough, bitterly divisive election, folks. Whether or not your team won last night, one thing we cannot engage in the false belief that the other side doesn't love this country. They do. I do. Some of my closest friends voted a completely different slate of candidates from me, and I am not going to end our friendship as a result. That would be just ******ed.
Some advice:
Dems:
- If you are in agony over last night's outcome, stop with the demonization of Red-staters and GWB. This is but the first step on a road to civil war. For whatever reasons, people, pro-Bushies fervently believe that theirs is the way to go.
- Stop the whining. "I'm going to X country" screeds only make you sound pathetic. Furthermore, it's a cop-out. Part of being an American citizen is dealing with political situations you don't like. Participate in your party's inevitable re-orginazation and get the guy elected that you like. Convince the other side why your side is a viable alternative.
Reps:
- Stop with the demonization verbal emasculation of those who vote Blue. These people also passionately care for this country, albeit in a slightly different way than you. Realize that this country is a lot more centrist than divided, as Clinton was able easily win twice. People haven't really changed that much in six years.
- Stop the gloating. It's unseemly and frankly disgusting. If you care about discourse in this country, if you care about keeping America strong, you'll do your best to persuade those in disagreement rather than laughing. Again, gloating is but another step on the road to civil war (culturally or otherwise).
***Last but not least, I want to remind everyone that the Everyone forum is the best place for political discussion. Pre-allo is not such a good place.
Peace.
