So is anyone else a REEdiculous procrastinator like me? I have yet to submit my PS for prelim or EM. Am I alone? I think I might be....

I already have interviews for Prelim though, so I guess all is not lost.

Let me know if there are any other slackers out there. 😳

Since many of our members are neurotic about getting things done right, etc. I would think it's safe to assume most if not all (minus you) have the PS in. You still have time technically. How do you get good rec letters if you don't have a PS to give to your letter writers along with your CV?

It takes like 30 minutes to write. You are really putting yourself at the BOTTOM of the application list by not having it done.

tone down the judgement a few notches maybe?

Not everyone has their completed application including LORs and transcripts ready to be uploaded on Sept 1st.

Billibob - the prelim essay really isnt that big a deal (obviously, since you're getting invites without it). Sounds like you got your essays in to the advanced programs you're applying to. It's true that you might have to wait longer for interview invites for EM the longer your app goes incomplete, but if you get it in by the time the dean's letter is released (nov 1st, which a lot of ppl do) then you should be fine.

Some programs practically ignore the PS, others think its extremely important. So it should be good - I'm not sure a nobel laureate could write a good ps in 30 minutes.

That doesn't make any sense. All the PS is you trying to convince someone why they should rank you. You have alot less time to do that verbally in an interview.

And you say that I am the one not making sense? I had no idea that used the PS to decide whether or not to rank applicants; I always thought that happened after the interview.

In any case, what's your point? That the ps is important? B/c that's exactly what I was saying when I said that 30 minutes is not enough time to write a ps. Maybe you're an amazing writer, but most mortals have to go through several drafts.

Do not underestimate the power of a PS in getting interviews (not just ranking). I was told at several places that I was specifically offered an interview because of what I wrote in my PS.

Obviously my n = 1 here, but its true that some programs do place more emphasis on it than others. Some programs will withhold interview offers until all elements of your application are downloaded from ERAS. Your PS should be well written without recitation of info on your ERAS CV.

And while it is true that not everyone has all their stuff in by September 1, we are now 6 weeks into the application cycle, so IMHO, the OP is hurting their application by not having his/her PS done.

In your opinion. You are saying it as if it were a statement of fact.
