So for all of you who still haven't heard anything from Stanford: are you going nuts like I am? My application was complete in early August, and I haven't heard a peep. :scared:

I haven't seen any rejections on the 'Wall of Shame' lately, and I kind of feel guilty checking it every now and then (trying to figure out what's going on with my application). Surely it can't take them 5 months to make a decision on a file, right?!

I have become totally apathetic about Stanford after not hearing anything for 5 months. I actually am moving closer towards just withdrawing - not as a reaction to it taking this long, but I just have had so much more time to explore other schools, luckily get into a couple, and get excited about what they have to offer. Stanford is like kissing someone with limp lips. You just don't get anything out of it and after a while you would rather just move on.

Nah, I'm not concerned. I applied there on a whim, and while I'd love to go there, it wasn't in my "serious" plans. 😛

 All too true, however for some odd reason I REALLY want to know why it's taking them so long to pucker up.

Maybe they're waiting to finish analyzing the August MCATers, and to fit them in with the rest of the applicants before making another sweeping round of rejections/invitations. I'm still holding out a little hope, but if they haven't invited me yet, getting in is definitely an uphill battle from here.

yah... I haven't heard anything at all from them either... I'm also feeling indifferent about them. (which is sad because they were one of my favorites - if not my top choice - going into this process)

Stanford is really, really slow. I did get to interview there, and they stressed that they read each and every single application - no numbers screen. They also just started interviewing in December, and with the break for the holidays, I'd say hang in there! Some of the current students mentioned that they interviewed in late March, and they currently attend. One even said she had her interview day ON the second-look weekend, and hey, she's a student! It SUCKS to wait so long, but with Stanford at least, I think there's still some hope.

Of course then you sit post-interview ready to puke every time the phone rings and tell your friends to STOP CALLING because you get a heart attack. After searching these forums for last years' pattern, my blood pressure will rise appreciably every Thursday until I get the expected waitlist/reject letter... must... keep... hopes... down.

I guess I hadn't really looked at it that way with respect to Stanford (they're so slow about everything, it's almost as if they're practically non-rolling), although you're still right: it's defiintely going to be harder to gain acceptance the later we interview.

Having a friend who's already been accepted (regular MD decision), I'm starting to see the number of available seats getting smaller by the day...

I think they do interview through March or April, so there really is still plenty of time.

Ughhhhhhhhhh, really Labslave? I guess my hope that they hadn't begun calling yet was wrong... was your friend called last Thursday? Crap.

I don't know the exact day, but he did find out at the end of last week. I can always ask...

same here...i had figured i wouldn't get an interview from stanford, but recently i've been daydreaming about it since i haven't been rejected yet. who knows what they're up to!

That makes sense, since apparently their first meeting was last Thursday night. I pretty much assumed I wouldn't get in when I didn't hear anything but kept hoping that hey! Maybe I got bumped into this week's pile! Unlikely though since I interviewed over a month ago.... thanks for the info though.

DeadorAlive, maybe they only called a couple people. No one on SDN who interviewed in early December has heard back yet. Keep your hopes up! (or at least neutral!)

One thing I've learned is that it's ridiculously hard to get into Stanford. Getting an interview did seem like a big step, but then they told us on our interview day that they only accept about 1/3 of their interviewees. Ah, so it's back to square one...that's how I feel anyway...

Definitely keep your head up. The way Stanford does admissions, you never know what's going on. In support of your idea, one of my good friends didn't hear until the end of January last year (and he was accepted)...despite the early January meetings.

Okay, head is resting comfortably on a medium incline. Not exactly up, because the fall from here will hurt less, but I won't get TOO trampled until I get that letter.

I didn't even want to go to Stanford until I went out there... boo! Best of luck to everyone.

I was complete at stanford in August too and have been getting a little anxious myself---I called the other day and was told that they were in the middle of sending out a batch of "letters"---I take this to mean rejection letters and I for one hope that my name is in the group.

is it true that stanford won't accept ANY materials after nov. 15th? my application was complete in early september. i'll be in CA interviewing at USC, so i called them to mention that i would be on their side of the country in case they might want to interview me. they just told me that they'll get to me when they get to me and i should keep my calendar open. but i've been published since i sent in my secondary and i want them to know that before they reject me. can anyone confirm?

Hey, guys. Just wanted to let you know that my friend did get a call from Dr. Garcia (offering him admission), but it was on Friday, not Thursday.

I'm sure you can send them an update. I was under the impression that you just couldn't send in the secondary after Nov. 15th. Even if they just disregard your update, I couldn't imagine that it would hurt your application. If anything, it'll make them take another look.

I also have not heard back from Stanford and I have been complete since August. I still have hope though.

So you, too, would rather be given a rejection than stress out while waiting with some semblance of hope. I just fail to understand why they would take so long to respond, seeing as they don't categorize themselves as a school that lets everyone know at one time (i.e. sending out all rejections in March).

Perhaps. Perhaps they are just slow. 🙁

i emailed them about possibly sending an update letter, to which they responded that updates can be provided at the interview. so pretty much, they didnt want the update...

Be thankful that you haven't heard anything - I actually got my rejection letter before they even cashed my check... so tempting to cancel the payment...

a friend of mine sent them an update and they returned it in the mail because it was sent after nov 15th. if they only say you can bring an update at the interview, then what are we supposed to do to help convince the adcom that we're interview worthy?

They interview like 300 people and accept like 100, right? 33% chance... LOL so depressing... 🙄 I'm still waiting to hear back from them also... hopefully I won't get any snail mail from Stanford soon because that's prolly a rejection letter.

No, I also got published and they replied to my "update" with an email saying to bring the update to my interview...They said that is the first chance for updates. They also said not to send any transcripts because they'd just throw them away...

I think they accept close to 165

Someone said Stanford also sends out interviews by mail.... but regardless of whether it's an interview or rejection - I hope I get a letter and end this wait!

Cool! Too bad I won't return until next Thursday to check my mail... 🙁 But regardless I was complete at Stanford right before the deadline so I probably won't hear back until March or something... come on Stanford, I LOVE U!!! <3

Don't want to burst your bubble, but I think when they say the notify by email/mail, they mean they send and email AND a letter to notify you of the interview, not one or the other. So if you haven't gotten the email, don't expect a surprise interview invite in the mail when you return...

DeadorAlive, when did you interview? I interviewed the first week of their interviews (early Dec), but have still not received any response from them. I was praying for a call last week, but now that its passed it doesn't look good for me.

Me too. I know it's good to be optimistic and all, but if they did notify folks last week, chances seem... slim.

If I haven't heard from them yet, but will be in the Bay Area next month - do you think I can contact them to ask if they've made any decisions regarding my application? I vaguely recalling that this wasn't possible and they'll get to you when they get to you... but you'd think that they already got to me if I was complete four months ago...

i'd contact them just to let them know you'll be in the area...be extremely polite and guarded in how your word it. after all this time, and especially with cali being so far away, they should understand, right?! 😳

I sent them a similar email last month (due to the fact that I have an interview at UCLA and am traveling from the east coast), and the response was super cryptic. In any event, the response was essentially that they would put my application in a large pile of applicants who had requested interviews at particular times, but they couldn't promise that a decision would be made any time soon. I hope you have better luck!

Oh man, I've been complete since early August, too. Haven't heard back, got some mighty ants in the pants today, and sent a polite email asking about my application status. Which, considering everyone else's situation, might have been a bad idea.

I guess I'm just extra extra extra paranoid about stuff getting lost in the mail, since it's happened to a couple of people before.

Unfortunately, there's a large group of us that still haven't heard. That means bad news for the majority of us...and most likely has absolutely nothing to do with the postal service. 😉

*sigh* Let's all keep each other informed when these "letters" start coming out. My guess is that my app wasn't reviewed by the time the first batch of rejections came out, so I should expect my rejection this time around... OR Standford could continue to toy with my emotions like the majority of schools that I applied to.

Well, my story is over -- waitlisted. I do appreciate getting the letter quickly, though! I'm actually glad I realized this here a few days ago rather than just getting the jolt at the mailbox...

So long, Palo Alto....

I'm sorry to hear about that, DeadorAlive. 🙁 🙁 I'm sure you'll get into plenty of schools that are much better than Stanford anyway (if you haven't already).

DeadorAlive,

When did you interview? I interviewed 12/16 and haven't heard anything.

add me to the "where is stanford" club. i've been complete forever!!(in the scheme of these application things). to add insult to injury, i lived basically across the street from stanford for years.

Did they say anything about if you can send updates after the interview? My plan was to send an update after my interview but before my file gets reviewed because of an award that I'll hopefully get a few days after my interview and some other stuff. It'd be good to know if we have to bring everything to the interview.

I think we had a discussion about update letters to Stanford in a different thread and the answer was to bring the updates to the interview. If you don't get an interview, tough luck I guess.

I don't know...You could ask at your interview. If all else fails, include the info in a thank you note to your interviewers...

How did they respond? Did they just say they're still evaluating it?

A related question- Does anyone know if Stanford evaluates apps in the order they were received? ie, if they've started interviewing ppl who were complete in September/October, does that mean that everyone who was complete in August and not gotten an interview yet has been passed over for now?

Maybe there will be some movement off the waitlist...don't give up!

I interviewed the first week that you could. I'd wager that you have another week or two to hear - did they give you a date when they thought they would know?
