Need help

I must absolutely suck at interviews. I've been to about 20 and still can't seem to get a residency. I've got the grades/scores/letters secured but can't land a categorical.

People may say "There are some people who are ace on paper but have zero personality and will get rejected". This might be me. I got no personal sales skill and would probably be in bankruptcy if sales were my job.

I must be saying the wrong things. I don't understand. I'm broke from all the interviews and still have no residency to go to . Please help with some interviewing advice. Ive wasted money on essays/books on interviewing and still sh-t outta luck. HELP!

some suggestions:

1.do a practice interview and record it on camera. that way you'll see if your body language or mannerisms need improvement. video tape more practice interviews to see if you are improving.

2.recall as many of the questions you were asked during your actual interviews and try to remember what you answered. write these answers down and give them to somebody you trust to see what they think. they may pick up on some things that you said that could have thrown your interview off, even though you don't realize it yourself.

3. contact some of the programs you interviewed at and see if they are willing to give you feedback on what went wrong and ways you can improve.

General surgery PDs are looking for people who share their same personality traits:

-CONFIDENT
-EGOTISTIC (just a little, will not hurt. The PD at my school once told us "how can you cut a person open and mess with the integrety of his body if you do not feel that you are the best. - By the way he is one of them "old school dinasours")
-LEADERSHIP
-HARD WORKER
-COOL under stress

And MOST importantly: - Humble, subordinate, and respectful to the PD. PDs do not want people with attitudes. They want people who they can shape as they wish. Yes, prepare to be your PDs bitch for the next 5-7 years. And never question a PD's order. You are your PD's "property" once residency starts.

Good Luck.
