Does anybody know what the typical % of out of state students that Stony Brook accepts each cycle? I tried looking it up on their site, but couldn't find the data I needed.

I think its close to 0%.

That's a pretty good geuss. Stony has a very very limited out of state acceptance rate. I believe last year there were 0

If you want a chance at out-of-state acceptance to a NY state school, try your luck at Buffalo. There are at least 10 out of state students in each class, all of whom can get NY residency after a year.

Class size at Buffalo is 85, they can get away with 10 out of staters. Class size at Stony is like 35, from what I've heard it's basically all New York state students. I would have to agree with the 0%, it's definitely <5%.

I heard there's only like 1 person from last year's class that are out-of-state. So it's competitive indeed. My take on this is that if you are qualified enough to get into Stony as an out of stater, you SHOULD have no problem on getting into your state school. 😀

Thanks for the info guys.

I was just trying to take advantage of an offer from a friend of mine who's a great dentist in Huntington. Stony Brook would be close enough to him where I would be able to spend some time learning techniques.

Speaking of Stoney Brook, I was just in long island this weekend, and my friend was telling me that a dentist just died from being struck by a drunk driver while making a left turn out of Stoney Brook University the other night. He was 37 years old and apparently his wife had just given birth to their new baby 2 months ago. That's ****ed up. Certainly made me take a step back and put everything into perspective.
