hey all
i'm applying to stony brook and only have 2 letters of rec from science profs, and i have one from the dentist i havae been shadowing.....stony brook requires three from science profs.
I called them and asked them about this situation (and since it is the summer all of my science profs are doing something other than wanting to write me a letter) Stony Brook told me to write a letter explaining how i only have two and then explain that the letter from the dentist is in place of the other letter
is this o.k. to do....what i'm asking is will they just toss my app out the window b/c i havent met their exact reqs?

Hm...i only had two recommendations from science profs and one from a non-science...My pre-health committee took these three and wrote a composite letter....everything seemed to be ok. Did you speak to olivia?

They put me on the waiting list. I got the letter on Monday (June 6th). After months and months of waiting, I'm left....waiting.

i got put on the waitlist too, but did not send it back. So There is one less person on it.

OP: Stony brook is hard to get into, but that is because it has a small class size. They usually take a lot of care and will know each applicant by name. When I call they know exactly who I am (or do a pretty good job of faking it). So I imaging that it would be the kind of school to not just throw applicants out based on their little checklist, rather they evaluate everyone with more care. Plus, they told you that was okay, so it must be okay. But I could be wrong. It is not like I got in.

Keep trying, they would be amenable to just sending it in next fall when you are able to. They will just stick it in your file.
