Stories about things done to get off waitlists

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
i gave my friend my fortune from my fortune cookie.

he carried it around with him. pretty much a week or so before school began, he got off the waitlist of the school he wanted to attend.

that fortune is now framed, and ill be waiting to use it if i happen to fall under a similar predicament.

what did it say?

Something along the line of "An unexpected situation will soon come upon you"...that can basically apply to anything, like getting dumped by your gf/bf, getting into med schools, get killed by a car accident...hehe

pretty close...

i forgot verbatim but it said something like...

someone will open their doors to you.

hahaha, I recently got a fortune saying "you will soon hear pleasant news"

Afterward I got acceptances at 2 schools, and interviewed at my #1 choice. But, just yesterday, I got pimped slapped by Wash U with a rejection. So.....

Hear's to fortune cookies :horns:

Hey path, get me an order of mushu chicken, since youre heading that way...

similar story- got a fortune cookie saying that i would be successful in the field of medical research. lo and behold...

later on, i got one saying that i would experience unexpected turn of events. then i got dumped by my girlfriend.

the cookie knows and sees all!!!!! :scared:

Does anyone know that Fortune cookies is actually a Western (Possibly American) invention? If you go to China or Taiwan or Hong Kong, most of the people won't know what you're talking about if you mention "Fortune Cookies" 😀

and people think its just a bunch of manufactured messages...

shows what they know 😎

long live the power the fortune cookie. (tho lottery picks are horrible)

Write a letter of intent that updates the med school with your senior year activities. You should also update them your transcript if it is good.

Actually... I had Chinese food two days before MCAT scores came out, and the first lottery pick number predicted my score! :scared: I remember it only because I thought to myself, "Wouldn't it be cool if this was my score report." The power of the fortune cookie is to be feared and revered. 😉

As for waitlists, the most effective thing the OP can do is write a letter of intent and then update the school with new activities/publications/grades as May approaches.

The fortune said..........

"A heavy burden is lifted with a phone message or letter."

After this fortune, I got into 3 med schools over a span of about a month.

i remembered it incorrectly on purpose because then it would force jet to sign on and correct me 😉

I heard about one guy that camped out by the Dean's office the first week of school saying he was staying their until they let him off the waitlist. Someone actually dropped out or didn't show up the first week of class and they gave him the spot even though he was in the middle of the waitlist.
