Cindy, after I couldn't find you on the platform I got back on the train and hoped you'd made it, too. Guess I was wrong. I searched every last car on the train and you were a no-show.

I'm back in Prague, so get over here if you're somewhere else. Don't write me at my gmail account because for some reason I'm not able to log in. That's why I'm writing you here; I created a new hotmail account and tried to write you from there but I guess I have your address wrong because the mail keeps bouncing back to me; the inaccessible gmail account is the only place I have your e-mail address saved.

Here's how to find me: at the train station (Holsevice, not the other one), go to the lodging booth, near the left luggage lockers. Ask the bearded guy at the booth (a real crook, by the way, though a charmer) to hand you the envelope marked "Cindy Crawford" (good one, eh?), which I left for you.

In that envelope is the tram map with the route to my hostel clearly marked out. Take the #9 first and follow the rest of the instructions.

Teddy is here with me and we are chilling out. If you went all the way to Krakow ... ouch! But we'll wait.

HORNET

Will Hornet find his girl?

Will his girl run off with a burly Eastern European garbageman named Klaus?

Will Teddy "chill out" to hypothermia?

Tune in next week to "As the ED turns"

jk

Hope everything turns out o.k.

HA HA HA !!!!!!!

Maybe she dumped him on purpose? I remember backpacking through Europe and "accidentally" missing a train to get rid of a traveling companion who had grown tiresome. What's the real story? How will it end? Will they reunite? 🙂

This is crap. This sounds like it was taken from some horrible online fiction project from the pre-internet Prodigy Network, circa. 1991.

Dude, all I've been thinking about lately is expensive interview trips and how to avoid being seen on the floors, this is a welcome distraction.

I'm personaly deeply worried that Cindy was whisked off by a sinister yet strangely silent black helicopter. I'm on the edge of my chair waiting for word of their safe reunion.

I am here with Cindy on Christmas Day in Prague! It is beautiful here.

She had, in fact, missed the train to Prague, and wound up going to Poland. There was some confusion as we were leaving (OK, we were having a fight) about whether to track back to Prague or go for the freezing sights of Krakow. One stormy walkoff led to another, and before I knew it, I was on a not-still-anymore train to Czech Republic with no sight of Cindy.

Cindy never read my post till just now, after we had already got in touch by phone on Thursday. Before that, I finally got into my gmail account, wrote her, and she called me at my friend's place in Prague. We reconciled, of sorts ("I was so worried about you! Don't ever do that again!") and then she made her way over here last night, on Christmas Eve.

For the record - and I know this puts a damper on the story:

We're not lovers. We're old friends from college. (Yes, we've hooked up once or twice - who can resist the romance of Paris on a drunken July night?) but we're basically old pals who got into a fight on a platform at a train station in Eastern Europe and were separated for a few days.

But we've learned our lesson. A merry Christmas to all, and to all, a good night!

While 1991 pre-dates the world wide web, it does not predate the internet. Prodigy certainly doesn't pre-date the internet. The internet was being used with other services other than http for years before the "web" became the phenomenon it is now. The current email protocols, IRC, and usenet were in use before then, as were other information services since obsoleted by the www (gopher, veronica, etc.).

Indeed, I used to run a BBS that ran WWiV software... man I played trade wars everyday... not to mention downloaded lots of games and... uh, pictures.

True. But it is funny now to remember when an ISP and an online service were two different things. Using e-mail or the Internet through Prodigy used to be an "extra" ("$$$") service ...

Whew ... it's been a while since I thought about MadMaze or CEO ...
