OK, so I've had a few beers and I've got to thinking: all of you who are waiting for your matches- what happens if you don't match somewhere you are interested in? What are your options?

OK, so I've had a few beers and I've got to thinking: all of you who are waiting for your matches- what happens if you don't match somewhere you are interested in? What are your options?

Do you mean simply not match?
Scramble into an unfilled spot either categorical or prelim.
Do research for a year and try again (popular for derm/rad onc etc).
Do something else for a year (backpacking in Cambodia e.g.) and then reassess.
Leave clinical medicine.

Or match into somewhere you don't care for?
Well you shouldn't have put it on your list then! The match is binding.
