If they ask you what your strengths and weaknesses are in an interview, I realize that this question is open ended but are they looking for character traits that would strengthen/weaken your career as a doctor or anything in general?

Like for instance, my strength would be that I am organized and detail oriented..and my weakness would be something how sometimes I am superfluous when writing, which is more of a student weakness rather than a character weakness....

What did you guys say in response to this question?

My weakness is chocolate.

Be honest. Nothing says more about your character than being honest. BS answers will get you nowhere.

and never ever ever say that your weakness is that you are a prefectionist. i herad that interviewers cringe when they hear that...it means that you havent done any self introspection. anyways be honest in your answers....a weakness or strength can be anything ....it can be professional or personal.

Honesty is a good call. I told my interviewers I thought my weakness was my borderline obsessive nature at times. Most of them just laughed it off and said that any student with the credentials to apply to medical school needed to have a somewhat obsessive nature. 😉
