stress response system and anxiety disorders

Im putting together a presentation on the stress response system. I've done some research on how malfunctions of the stress response system can lead to anxiety disorders but their is some holes in my knowledge that I hope you guys might help me with.

I've read that high levels of cortisol in the blood can lead to cell death of neurons with glucocorticoid receptors because of excitotoxicity. The hippocampus supposedly has neurons that have these receptors and imaging studies of people who have anxiety disorders show that their is decrease in hippocampul volume. I understand that the hippocampus suppresses the activity of the parvocellular neurosecretory neurons in the hypothalamus and that damage to the hippocampus starts a vicious cycle which leads to anxiety disorders. I read somewhere a while back that ssri's increase hippocampul volume. Is that why ssri's treat anxiety disorders. Because they increase hippocampul volume. I was thinking that since there is more neurons in the hippocampus there will be increased suppresion of the parvocellular neurosecretory neurons.

If any one has a link to the study that shows there is an increase of hippocampul volume because of ssri consumption that would be great. Also if there is any new treatments for anxiety I would like links to studies that show the mechanisms of these new treatments.
