Hi guys, I graduated Johns Hopkins with a 3.2 and a 3.05 BCPM. I have a solid 32R MCAT and have applied all over the place, including all the "lower tier" schools. I sent my app in June 18th, and I will be doing the Georgetown SMP this fall. My personal statement was good, and I have pretty good EC's and recs. The GPA is really stressing me out though! Should I be as worried as I am? Feel free to ignore this thread, but for those of you who answer, 1 pound of flesh. 😍

I'm not gonna lie, a 3.2 overall and a 3.05 is kind of low for med school (no matter where you go). Check your school's stats on the AAMC website or in MSAR to see where you stand. But, hey, you already applied so there's nothing you can really do except sit back and see what happens. It's not really worth stressing over if it's already done.

I think the 32R may induce adcoms (especially of lower tier schools) to not weigh your gpa as much figuring in your ec's and recs. Since you already submitted your app, you might as well enjoy the couple of months before secondaries are sent out. Good luck.

GOBUCKY!

You just have to kick a$$ in your SMP program. There are people who have done it with a good masters gpa and solid MCAT.

Yours is good! 👍

No more stressing now, because what's done is done. Focus on what's ahead of you.

Oh, and check out http://www.mdapplicants.com/
and do a specific search profile on those who were admitted with less than 3.3 cumulative and less than 3.10 BCPM grade point average that were interviewed, and you'll feel better. A lot of those people did masters programs.

Life is tough for many of us low gpa'ers. I applied last year after my 3rd year at UCSD with a 3.33 gpa (both science and overall) and 34 MCAT (12V 10P 12B). I got 3 interviews (Drexel, SLU, Tulane) and as of right now I am sitting on 2 waitlists and no acceptances. I think I should have gotten a straight acceptance at Drexel but my student interview went badly and probably led to my post-interview rejection there. I'm still hopeful that I'll get in but it's been a difficult process for me. If you're stressed now, wait until you really get into the heart of the application process. Things are likely to get even more nerve-racking. I suggest you take up something like yoga or alcoholism, whatever suits you best.

Graduating from Hopkins may benefit you and slightly offset that BCPM GPA. I wouldn't be surprised if you get interviews.

P.S. Do very well at Georgetown.......
