Stringency of C- vs C for required classes?

Have any of you tried to apply w/ a C- in say, orgo, and gotten turned down because they said you needed a "C or higher" which does not include C-??

Many schools are very firm on this rule. It's even on their websites. You will either be rejected, or receive a conditional acceptance that you retake it before you matriculate. Either way, you're retaking the class, and you might as well do it before you apply.
