Hi all, this question may be a little too late, but I am wondering if you have any info on this. I am interested in immunology and microbiology. I have been able to identify many great immunology programs by talking to many PIs during my MSTP interviews, but how about microbiology? The people I talked to seemed not to be very familiar with that field... Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It looks like you didn't apply to WashU, which, as I understand it, is probably the best microbio program out there. Other than WashU, the faculty at my undergrad seem to regard Wisconsin, Stanford and Harvard as the best places for micro. A lot of schools don't even have a separate microbio department, so that's one very crude way to assess whether the institution values microbio research.
