Struggling with bio

I haven't had gen bio since the academic year of 2006-2007 (the only bio classes I've had since then are anatomy, physiology and histology) and I'm having a hard time with all of the terminology that I'm trying to re-learn while reading CliffsAP Bio. I should probably mention this is my first time going through CliffsAP Bio and I do plan on reading the book a second time or possibly going through the Kaplan blue book.

Is anyone else having a hard time with this bio? Is there any internet source that I could look at that will help me piece information together?

Any suggestions on what I could do would be appreciated. 🙂

Right there with you!! I have only taken Bio I and II and right now I am seriously struggling with Bio. I took the Topscore test I and got a 15 in Bio. It's easily my worst subject. I can't be of much help, but I can be here with moral support lol..just hang in there and work hard. Big bump for this thread. 👍

I found bio to be the most difficult of the three science sections in terms of preparation and performance on the actual DAT. I think your anatomy and physiology class, which I never took, will help your preparation.

I don't think there is any shortcut for learning the bio material. Cliffs is an excellent resource, and you should read through it at least 2 or 3 times. Make sure to study those sections where you're weakest. Once you've learned Cliffs, read the appropriate sections of your textbook (Campbell) to pick up a little more detail on each of those topics. I know it's a pain, but I think it will pay dividends.

DAT Destroyer is also helpful once you feel you're up to speed on all the material. Unfortunately, the bio questions in Destroyer aren't organized by topic, which I found annoying. The other sections in DAT destroyer were helpful as well.

I didn't even take bio II...and I didn't study for bio I hard enough so I knew very little.

I'm about 160 pages into Cliffs (I just finished the evolution section) and my biggest hang up so far is the cell division and genetics stuff. When I was in Gen Bio 1 I kind of blew off the class thinking "whatever, as long as I get a B I'll be happy", but at the time I was unaware that the DAT existed 😛

Now I wish I would have put in the effort to learn some of that stuff better the first time because it would have made this stuff SO much easier.

im going thru bio and everything is review for me... are you a different major other than bio or biomed?

i have taken evolutionary bio, cell biology, physiology, pathophysiology, nutrition, anatomy and those have covered everything i have seen so far? i am a junior biomed major.

I'm a human bio major but I haven't seen a lot of the material in at least two years. (i.e. taxonomy, anything plant related, anything genetics related, anything evolution related, etc.)

I just completed my third year and the only bio courses I have taken over the last two years have been anatomy, physiology and histology. The majority of my classes over the past two years have been Gen Chem, O. Chem and Physics.
