Hey guys, this is my first time posting here and could really use some help. I recently got my AMCAS application verified and was pretty disappointed with my cGPA(3.3) and sGPA(3.35). Last 60 credits was a 3.67. I took the mcat in June and got a 509 overall. However, I am retaking it in 2.5 weeks and have a good feeling that I can score much higher. Would it even be worth applying to MD schools this year? In order for me to raise my gpa to a 3.5 I would need about 65 credits of all A’s. I’m feeling a little hopeless now. Should I do a post-bacc? Any advice would be helpful. Thank you!

What was your score breakdown? What were your AAMC practice scores?
126/126/129/128. My FL scores were between 514-15. My highest was a 518 on FL3. Test day I got absolutely screwed by C/P. It was very physics heavy. Never scored that low on any test.

I would pursue a postbac. Your GPAs are quite low for MD, even with a 90%+ MCAT retake. What is your state of residence? The postbac would be less geared towards raising your GPA substantially but to demonstrate high academic achievement. Even then, it is likely you would need to apply to DO programs. To aim for MD programs, you may need to consider an SMP but I wouldn’t pursue that at this point.

I’m a little confused by the postbacc process. Is it the same as a masters? Could I just take like 20-25 credits of upper division science classes? I live in Utah.

Postbac just means taking baccalaureate (undergrad) classes after receiving your diploma. Yes, you should be able to take as many or as few classes as you want. Some schools may require you to enroll as a second degree student but will not require you to complete the degree.
