Hi all,

I am a recent graduate who is in his gap year before medical school. Like other gap year students, I have been applying for different jobs to work in during my year off, and recently, I have received offers to work as scribes from both Oak Street Health and Physassist Scribe. I cannot possibly work at both because Oak Street Health does not offer part-time positions. One of the differences is obvious, which compensation: Oak Street Health offers $12/hour and the Physassist offers minimum wage (between $9 and $10). If anyone who has any knowledge or experience with either company or both, I would really appreciate any advice on which company to consider. Also for anyone who has experience working at either company or both and has gone on to medical school, I would like to know how valuable the experience was in your admission to medical school. Any information would help. I have to make a decision by the end of next week.

Thank you!

Scribed for too many years. Invaluable opportunity, take it. Where are you scribing at for each? Er? Physician's office?

Oak Street Health: has its own clinics all round IL and neighboring states. If I take this scribing position, I would work at a clinic and be part of a specific care team, which consists of a nurse practitioner, physician, and PA. They predominately practice geriatrics, in which they serve the elderly population. More info here: Oak Street Health

Physassist: I would work at a hospital, specifically in their ER department or outpatient clinics. I would rotate around with different physicians depending on the case.

How far is the commute from each? Unless Oak Street is much further away, I would just go with the one that pays you more.

Either one will look equally good. Take whichever one has the best combo of pay/hours/commute.

Pick the money and convenience. It's an entry level job and the experience will be what you make of it.
