Hey what are the average GPAs for programs like DMU, AZpod, and Calipod in the bay?

I tried searching and i was looking at residency matches but of the residency matches have GPA requirements so is that like md school where they say a minimum of 3.0 required to apply but you have to have like a 3.7+?? or if you have a ,say, 3.25, will you be considered really competitive?

This differs by school. Some schools are on the 4.0 scale while a few do the percentage scale. I have no idea what the averages are. Maybe some current students could give you some insight.

I don't really understand what you're asking. Are you asking what the average GPA's are to get into pod school, or into residency? If you're asking about getting into school I think for this years entering class at SCPM the stats are: out of 95 students: 3.21 (Science), 3.11(non-Science) GPA – the most common MCAT score was 28 (also the only entrance exam accepted), – average age is 25 years old. I don't know what they say their minimum gpa is, but obviously people get in with GPAs above and below the average. For getting into residency, I haven't even had time to think that far ahead. Hope this helps.

Is this the average for SCPM? I thought DMU and AZPOD had some of the best entering stats all around. I believe for Class of 2012 at Des Moines the MCAT score was 23 (from website). Thanks

I have a question about externship and residency programs too concerning GPAs. What criteria to externship programs look for? Do they consider GPA, research, and personality all equally? For residency programs, some programs say that they require a minimum GPA of 3.0, but realistically, could you be a competitive applicant to that residency program if you have a 3.0 or do you realistically need a GPA that is higher? I know that it might vary depending on the resindency program, but what about residency programs and externships at Beth Israel or Mass General Hospital or Cambridge in the Boston area?

Basically, what do these programs seriously consider in an applicant and how much is each factor considered?

I think that is a difficult question to answer because it really is program dependent. There is no single answer and it really does just depend on the program.

do you know of any in particular that say 3.0 is minimum but actually you need a 3.5? like kaiser or the one mentioned above in cambridge...or any other PM&S 36's?

Just get to pod school and do the best you can. You sound like you're trying to figure out how little work you can do in school and still get by.

Figuring out how to do the least amount of work is hard work man!

lol you definately didnt read the question right, i was simply asking what gpa does one need to get in pod school to be a competitive applicant for the best residencies? besides if, for example, a 3.3 in podiatry school would make me competitive-I want to know that so i can shoot for at least a 3.5 if that makes sense...obviously i want a 4.0 but it seems like very few people get those in grad school so i wouldnt want to assume id be able to either. I am going to try my best obviously or id go do some government job making 35K a year with benifits okay? no need to be pretentious, but i guess i understand where you are coming from 🙂

Along the same lines how important is GPA for getting a residency program? I know they look at other things like passing the boards, clerkships, and letters of recommendation, but are all of these weighted equally?

this is what i was trying to ask lol but ppl got all weirded out.

Good GPAs are a dime a dozen because many people will do just about anything to get them because they think that is all that their application consists of.

I am here to tell you that good gpa is not a guarantee of anything and you might well be passed up for a candidate who has crappy gpa but wouldnt negotiate their soul in order to get it.

Anyway, do what is best for your patients, cheating/shortcuts (however you want to call it) never benefits your future patients (regardless of GPA) or your prospective residency program.

Most smart residency directors understand this I think.

All I am asking about is residency placement...to get your foot in the door you need about a 3.0 from what i see maybe 3.25 for a few...SO im wondering are most students able to attain that level of academics due to the rigor of their coursework? or do most students find it hard to maintain that and end up with say 2.8ish and only the top 20% or so are able to get 3.0 and higher? thats all im asking

I think the majority of people are able to get over a 3.0.
