What's the real status of student H&P's.
I need REAL information on the status and wether just signing our H&P's is enough for the JCAHO? I believe (but don't have proof) that a H&P must be completed by a DO (intern or better) or we have a violation of JCAHO standards.

That is a question you should ask your attending resident/intern or your rotation supervisor.

In addition to signing the student's H&P, Interns/Residents or attendings usually do an admit note (usually a one-page document) that has the history and physical, but skips the review of systems.

So, if your physicians are doing admit notes, signing the student H&P is OK -- assuming it matches the physician's assessment of the patient.

JCAHO is much more concerned about orders and daily charting than about H&Ps.

Thanks for answering that one Dr. Burnett...I was little more than useless!
