Did a quick search on this and came up empty:

What's the point of attending a student-only research conference/forum? Something to put on residency apps? Our school gives time off to those accepted to the research forum in our region (WMSRF), but I'd much rather take the 3-4 days and take a mini-vacation or something.

If it is just resume-padding, how much does it actually add? Is it worth it?

You spend 3 hours presenting a poster, and have 93 hours to do whatever you want? Uh... pretty awesome. But no, its basically resume padding, as is most (certainly not all) poster presenting.
