I have heard from several people that interviews at wake forest only last about 15-20 minutes. How do they get to know you in only 20 minutes? How has the experience been for you all? I checked interview feedback and most of their interviews were also 15-20 minutes. Thanks for the inputs ! 🙂

do u have an interview at WFu soon?

yeah early october

I had one there last year, and I think they were probably the best interview process I experienced. They're very low stress, you just talk with them for a few minutes and then move on to the next interviewer - there's 3 of them. If I remember correctly, only one of them asked me anything related to medicine. The other 2 just asked me what I liked to do and stuff. Good luck.

thanks bob! My only concern was how they will get to know me in only 20 mins

This is a little off-topic, but does anyone know how Wake Forest screens? Do they just use MCAT and GPA, or do they read the essays?

Thanks,
Emily

I think the initial screening is based on MCAT, GPA, etc... - then likelihood of actually coming to Wake Forest. If you apply to 35 schools, then they have less interest in you as opposed to if you only applied to 3 schools in the Carolina's other than WFUMS. Of course, they can't have it down to something that simple. Some of it ends up as a "gut feeling" call. They see you speak a second, third language, then they like that and say, put him/her in the interview group. They see you did some research for NIH even though you have mediocre MCATs, then they give you a shot through the interview. That's all.

I don't think it's based just on numbers because my stats really aren't impressive but I have amazing extracurriculars and pretty good LORs and I just got the secondary invite today 😀 . Also they can't tell how many other schools you applied to so that shouldn't be a factor. Other threads have also mentioned the likelihod of you going there as a factor, but I'm not sure how they would measure that.

Medical schools don't see the list of schools an applicant has applied to. Perhaps I misunderstand this statement.

i dunno what wake forest used in their secondary formula but i got one.

i definitely did not have good numbers and i dont know how i showed them i would go to WFUSM by looking at my primary.

in any case...good luck...its all a gamble in this weird weird world.

also i know that schools dont know how many schools you applied to.

On a slightly different topic, but still directed to those who have interviewed at Wake Forest:

Is there a shuttle from the Greensboro airport to the Medical Center?

yeah there is one that I know of. I called this hotel I will be staying at, which is very close to the medical center and they told me about this shuttle service. I called them and they said it would be around 35-40$ from greensboro. Here is the number ask them if they go directly to the medical center 1800-934-8779

Yes they do, it is on the AMCAS.

Ah, ok sorry...I thought they knew where you applied/were holding acceptances at..I am pretty sure they know the latter, anyhow, thanks for the info.

I was told by the lady I talked to in admissions that "although (my) MCAT scores weren't spectacular for Wake Forest, (they had) chosen me for an interview b/c I had only applied to a couple other schools showing my keen interest in Wake. From what she said, I inferred they at least know how many schools you apply to if not the names.

I don't think that matters entirely because I applied to 30 schools and got an interview at Wake Forest ... they are a mystery 😕

That is interesting. I did not even consider the fact that a school would know how many other schools you applied to. Maybe that also explains why people have been getting rejected presecondary from Northwestern with stats like 38/3.8. Or maybe not. Anyway, I got a secondary from Wake and I only applied to 5 schools, so I guess that it may have worked in my favor.

If I get an interview there, I'll need to figure out how to answer the question: "If you get into Wake and UNC, where will you go?"

I've heard they will ask you that point blank.

This may be one of those situations that you just tell them what they want to hear.

"Yes, [though UNC costs half as much, is in a better location, has a better athletic program and a hotter undergrad population, and is ranked higher] I'd choose Wake in a heartbeat. The school feels like home, and I love everything about the school [admittedly, less than UNC, but hey, I just want in and think this question is uncool since I don't know if I'm getting into UNC. No good trying to kill my backup, man.].
