Is it possible to study for the DAT in a month and a half and do well if I bust my ass? I've been reviewing a bit for the past two months but will be taking the test in mid-July and really want to do well.

more than 90% of people that i met in SDN said 3 months are long enough but I guess that's becuz they are smart.😡

If you are like me, u might have to spend over 3 years 🙂

Of course...there unfortunately is no equation to tell you how long you must study. Take a practice test now....See your score and your weak points. At minimum study a month. Then take another test. If you are scoring 18-20+ on Topscore/Achiever, then you are ready. I am taking the test with only 2 months of studying (but I have taken the test before)

yeah, that's what normal people should do 🙂
I came from community college and got an A in general chemistry without knowing what proton and neutrons are :scared:
and got an A in general biology class for being present in the class without absent.

very possible....obviously, your life will be centered around it...but it can be done...that's exactly what i'm doing... i wake up thinking dat, study all day, go to bed thinking dat....what a life

I think it depends on your circumstances. When I take the DAT I will have studied about 2.5 weeks. But I just finished my orgo sequence, so no studying required there.

nothing is impossible. the longer time you give yourself, you might feel lazier...😉

I studied for 1 month. Just took it and get well-enough scores. It's not the time that matters, it's how you efficiently use it. Don't use the practice tests to predict your scores, use them to figure out what your weak points are.

hey lilwebb,

i've given myself about 2 months starting today -- i plan on studying my butt off too, and from what i hear i think that's enough. I think these other guys are right about getting lax with more time... and for me, well i just feel like you do your best with what you got, i mean -- we can't study forever, we gotta take the test at some point... right? 🙄

There is definitely such a thing as studying too much. Month and half should be fine but you need to keep your eye on the prize and grind at it hardcore for that month and a half. Good luck.

All I can say is study your bum off and stick to it. A friend and fortunately found an extra office in the Biology building on campus and the department head allowed us to use it to study. We studied from 8-9 in the morning until 10-11 at night taking hour breaks for lunch and dinner. We did this from april until this wednesday, may 30 when I took the test. If you want to do good on the test you have to be serious. I have a wife and a daughter and thank goodness they supported me or I could have never done it. Who knows how long it should take for you to prepare, all you need to do is work like a dog and set a goal for a certain day and get it done. You can be successful if YOU want to.

How long to study really depends on the person.

You don't need to study very long if you have a strong science base already, are able to retain information and understand concepts in lieu of just memorization.

i hope that's enough time because i'm basically on the same schedule. i'm hoping that a month and a half of solid studying is going to be enough although i have taken a course. in case you're looking for some good material to test your skills i think you should get The Destroyer and pound that away because it will be a really good indicator. but basically, we have to get the courage to take it, so just give yourself a time limit and do as much as you can with it. 👍
